Jack wakes up with a huge hangover after attending his company's Christmas Party. Jack is not normally a drinker, but the drinks didn't taste like alcohol at all. He didn't even remember how he got home from the party. As bad as he was feeling, he wondered if he did something wrong.

Jack had to force himself to open his eyes, and the first thing he sees is a couple of aspirins next to a glass of water on the side table. And, next to them, a single red rose! Jack sits up and sees his clothing in front of him, all clean and pressed. He looks around the room and sees that it is in perfect order, spotlessly clean. So is the rest of the house.

He takes the aspirins, cringes when he sees a huge black eye staring back at him in the bathroom mirror. HANOI, Vietnam (AP) -- Vietnam's legislature ratified the country's entry into the World Trade Organization on Tuesday, paving the way for the communist nation to become the global trade body's 150th member.

Vietnam's membership will take effect Dec. 28, 30 days after the National Assembly vote, opening the gates to increased foreign investment and trade in Southeast Asia's fastest-growing economy.

The move was approved by a vote of 444-3, with 2 abstentions.
I thought the North Vietnamese killed 58,000 Americans so they could set up a communist utopia. What's going on here? Membership in the WTO is the epitomy of capitalism. I have no objection to normalizing relations with Vietnam -- once the regime that conducted the Vietnam War is out of power and Hanoi admits that communism is dead in Vietnam. Relatives of Charles S. and Marie Robertson said the couple wanted their gift to be spent solely to educate graduate students for careers in government, especially as diplomats for the United States.

But the family now says the university has not churned out many diplomats and large portions of the gift -- now worth more than US$750 million (euro570 million) -- have been used for other purposes. The family wants to take the money back so it can give it to a school that will carry out its mission.

A young woman has put her eggs for sale on the internet to pay off £15,000 of credit card debts. Alexandra Saunders posted her details on an American website after reading about the huge amount that can be made in a woman's magazine.

The 26-year-old, who already has three jobs to try and pay off her debts, thought it would be an easy way to make money.

Ethically and morally, I have no objection to this. Even the most pro-life people believe that life begins at conception. There should be no more moral objection to a woman selling her eggs than to a man selling sperm.

HOWEVER.

What these women are not being told is that removing eggs is a very dangerous and painful procedure. I believe at least 25 women have died and more than 6,000 suffer lingering complications.

JACKSON, Mich. -- The party game asked people to name the stupidest thing they had ever done. Police say Jerry Rose answered, "Shot a guy in the head."

Now, Rose is charged with open murder and armed robbery in the March 22 slaying of 60-year-old Edgar Hawke.

Hawkes' wife and 14-year-old granddaughter found his body at the bottom of the basement stairs in his Parma Township home. A large amount of cash and a .22-caliber rifle were missing, The Jackson Citizen Patriot reported Saturday.

Police were making little headway in their investigation until officers in neighboring Calhoun County questioned Rose's girlfriend about a series of break-ins. She told them about Rose's confession during a summer party, and they gave the information to Jackson County sheriff's detectives.

Rose, 29, was arrested Wednesday at his mother's home. He was arraigned Friday and was being held without bond pending a preliminary hearing Nov. 15.

I've never played the game, but I'm sure I'd get along swimmingly by answering "truth" every time. The stupidest thing I've ever done was to buy a house.

A death sentence or life imprisonment generates an automatic appeal, delaying any execution by months at least. Saddam has said he wants to face a military firing squad, not the hangman.
This whole thing took only about 30 minutes. That was incredibly fast. Now, those sentenced to death get an automatic appeal. After the appeal process is completed, the sentences must be carried out within 30 days.

Still haven't seen the footage of Saddam in court. That's going to be interesting. Everyone is seeing the tape at the same time.

SEOUL, Oct 30, 2006 - Three South Koreans who forged a suicide pact over the Internet have been found dead in a park, police said Monday.

The three in their 20s and mid-30s were found lying on benches in Seoul's Namsan Park on Sunday. An empty bottle of cyanide was found next to their bodies along with a suicide note.

They had met and plotted their deaths on a website before killing themselves, according to news reports confirmed by police.

Police have detained a 19-year-old female college student for allegedly assisting the suicide.

The woman, identified only as Moon, told police how the four got together, purchased cyanide and wrote a joint will. She said she changed her mind at the last minute after a phone call from her boyfriend.

Islam forbids abortion, but apparently it's ok to kill the mother.

ANKARA, Oct 23, 2006 - A 15-year-old girl who gave birth to a child which she said resulted from a rape became the latest victim of so-called "honour killings" in Turkey, newspapers said on Monday.

The young girl, from a mainly Kurdish town near Turkey's eastern border with Iran, was murdered by an elder brother on Saturday, press reports said.

The victim, named only as Naile, had apparently not been aware she was pregnant until she started feeling unwell and was admitted to a hospital, where she gave birth to a boy, the reports added.

She later told her mother that the pregnancy had resulted from a rape. When other members of the family heard the news, the elder brother shot her dead at point-blank range in a street of the town, and then fled.

The Vatan newspaper quoted the local public prosecutor as saying that the family were believed to have convened a meeting at which they designated the brother to kill the girl, in order to remove what they saw as a stain on their honour.

The man, Ahmed Ashraf, was shooting a gun in the air outside his fiancee's home in the southern city of Karachi on Friday as part of his efforts to persuade her to get married two months early when a stray bullet accidently hit her, police said...

"He thought he had killed her and within seconds shot himself. The girl is fine," Hussain said.

Although the bride was wounded, I'd say she successfully dodged a bullet.

DHAKA, Oct 14, 2006 (AFP) - A tiny Grameen bank loan to buy a cow was a lifeline for 32-year-old Margina who now runs a successful rice business but was once so poor she could not afford to eat.

Like millions of others, Margina saw her life transformed through a 3,000 taka (42 dollar) loan from the Grameen Bank founded by Muhammad Yunus, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for lifting millions out of poverty through his pioneering concept of microcredit.

"When I first started borrowing from Grameen bank 12 years ago, I was very poor," said Margina, from Kathali village in the northern Mymensingh district.

"I used to only eat one meal a day and some days I could not eat at all. My husband did not have any work and we lived in miserable conditions," said Margina, who uses one name.

The bank, which targets women because it believes they are better than men at running family finances, has given small loans to more than 6.6 million people in Bangladesh to help them become self employed.

Once again, proof positive that capitalism, self reliance and entrepreneurship work better than government programs.

My flight was being served by an obviously gay flight attendant, who seemed to put everyone in a good mood as he served us food and drinks.
As the plane prepared to descend, he came swishing down the aisle and told us that "Captain Marvey has asked me to announce that he'll be landing the big
scary plane shortly, so lovely people, if you could just put your trays up, that would be super."

On his trip back up the aisle, he noticed this well-dressed and rather Arabic looking woman hadn't moved a muscle.
"Perhaps you didn't hear me over those big brute engines but I asked you to raise your trazy-poo, so the main man can pitty-pat us on the ground."

She calmly turned her head and said, "In my country, I am called a Princess and I take orders from no one."
